This week in Pre School.

We've had a busy and exciting week here at preschool!
We kicked off the week with Coach James, who's been helping us get ready for Sports Day! The children have loved getting active and practicing their running, balancing, and cheering skills. It's all building up to our big event-Sports Day is on Thursday, 10th July, so please remember to send your child in their team colour top. We can't wait to see you there!

In Maths, we focused on counting out objects from 1 to 5 and matching them to the correct number cards. The children really enjoyed this hands-on activity, and it was fantastic to see their confidence grow as they matched numbers with big smiles on their faces.
Our Phonics sessions were extra fun this week as we explored two new sounds: l for leg and h for horse. A few of our clever friends even noticed that these sounds appear in their own names-what a lovely moment of connection!

Outdoors, we had a very messy and creative time with paint! The children loved using their hands to explore colours, textures, and movement. From handprints to swirls, our outside area was full of laughter, discovery, and LOTS of paint!

We're also excited to announce that we've entered the Liskeard Show on 12th July! Head over to the Domestic Tent on the day to check out our special preschool entry-our little artists have been working hard and are very proud.
Lastly, by now you should have received your Welcome Pack for Reception Class. If you haven't got yours yet, just let us know and we'll make sure you get one. Thanks for reading-check back next week to see what else we've been up to!

Fun in the sun and So Much More!

What a wonderful week we’ve had in preschool!

The sunshine gave us the perfect opportunity to enjoy lots of outdoor play, including water fun and story time in the sun. The children loved relaxing with books outside, which was a great way to nurture our growing love for reading.

Phonics Fun This week in phonics, we explored the sounds f (f-f-f flower) and e (e-e-e egg). The children really enjoyed practising these new sounds through games, songs, and hands-on activities.

Marvellous Maths In maths, we’ve been focusing on counting objects from 1 to 5 and recognising numbers in any order. The children are gaining confidence every day and showing great progress with their number work!

Getting Ready for Reception We’re beginning to think about our exciting move up to Reception in September. In book bags this week, you’ll find a helpful poster outlining some of the key skills we’re working towards to help your child feel confident and ready for the next step.

Sky Arts Week  We were thrilled to take part in Sky Arts Week and had some very special visitors come to talk to us about their jobs:

Steph, a Speech and Language Therapist, showed us some amazing tools that help people communicate.

Chef Will, a Development Chef, shared what goes into creating new dishes—and answered lots of brilliant questions!

Dr. Katie spoke to us about what it takes to become a doctor and what it’s like to help people every day. It was such an inspiring experience for the children—and staff too!

Here’s to another fun-filled week ahead! Come back next week to see what we have been up to.

Sky Arts' Week

We've had great fun looking into the future and focusing on our dream professions - everything from professional footballers to counsellors.
We enjoyed the guest speakers and well-done Year 3/4a for creating some great questions for them to answer!
On completion of our artwork, we peer assessed, commenting on the features, design, choice of colours, 3D detail and how we may be able to improve our artwork if we were to do it again.

What an exciting week it’s been! Our students had a fantastic time participating in the Bridge Schools Games, where the theme was Wimbledon. The children took part in five fun-filled activities inspired by tennis, and their enthusiasm was truly infectious. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves while staying active.

In addition to the games, we celebrated Sky Arts Week with a creative twist. The children explored different occupations through art and produced some beautiful pictures. A special highlight was welcoming visitors from the community — a doctor, a business manager, and a chef — who shared insights about their professions. The children loved hearing about these careers firsthand!

Our English lessons took us under the sea as we learned all about octopuses. The children practiced writing informative texts and created clear subheadings to organize their work. In PSHE, we began an important discussion about how we grow and change, exploring the journey from babyhood to childhood.

Maths was just as engaging! We wrapped up our unit on multiplication and division and completed a pre-test on fractions to prepare for the next stage of learning. Alongside this, the children continued practicing their handwriting and focused on writing neat, complete sentences.

Finally, we made sure to take advantage of the lovely sunshine by spending some quality time outdoors, enjoying fresh air and play.

It’s been a busy week full of learning, creativity, and fun — we can’t wait to see what next week brings!

A fun week here in Preschool.

Last week was full of fun, learning, and special moments here in preschool!

Our phonics sessions were a big hit — we focused on the sound "b" as in "b-b-b-boot!" The children are really enjoying their phonics journey and are becoming so confident with their sounds. It’s wonderful to see them engage with enthusiasm and curiosity each day.
We also had an energetic session with Coach James from Kixx, helping us get ready for Sports Day. The children loved running, jumping, and practicing their teamwork skills — all while building confidence and coordination.

One of the most exciting events this week was the delivery of our brand-new climbing frame! The children couldn’t wait to explore it. It’s already proving to be fantastic for developing gross motor skills, encouraging turn-taking, communication, and so many other important areas of learning. Seeing the smiles and teamwork during play has been a joy!
On Friday, we took part in Wear Yellow Day to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. This cause is especially close to our hearts, as one of the brave students in our school lives with the condition. The children looked bright and beautiful in yellow, and it was a meaningful opportunity to talk about kindness, empathy, and resilience.
To end the week on a musical note, we’ve been enjoying learning some of our school songs — including “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, “Mary Poppins” favourites, and many more. It’s such a lovely way to bring everyone together and build our sense of community. Here’s to another week of learning, laughter, and growing together!

Come back next week to see what we have been up to.

This week, we have been exploring a variety of exciting topics across different subjects. In Maths, we have been learning about equal and unequal groups, helping us to understand the basics of multiplication and division. In English, we have been focusing on adding the suffix "-ing" to words in order to describe the actions of different sea creatures, which has helped us improve both our spelling and descriptive writing. During our ICT lessons, we have been learning all about the International Space Station (ISS), including how astronauts live and work in space. In History, we have been discovering what seaside holidays were like in the past, comparing them to modern-day beach trips and exploring how they have changed over time. In Music, we have started learning to play the ukulele, practicing chords and simple tunes. Lastly, in PSHE, we have been learning about life cycles, understanding how living things grow and change throughout their lives. It’s been a busy and fascinating week full of learning!

Summer 2, Week 1!

Welcome Back!
Welcome back to our final half term of the year — we can’t quite believe we’ve reached this point already! Summer Term 2 has officially begun, and even though it’s been a shorter week, we’ve certainly packed a lot in. One of the most exciting moments this week was watching our butterflies hatch! The children were fascinated by the process, and it was such a special experience to see the butterfly life cycle come full circle. We loved releasing them into the world and saying goodbye to our fluttery friends — Gabby, Spider-Man, Marshmallow, Penny, and Captain Bucky O’Hare!

In phonics, we’ve been learning the sound U u u – umbrella, and the children have enjoyed practising it through songs, games, and stories. Speaking of songs, we’ve been singing our hearts out this week! The classroom has been full of music as we’ve learned new favourites like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins and You’ve Got a Friend in Me — plus many more.

We also had another fantastic session with Coach James during Kixx, where we’ve started preparing for our upcoming Sports Day on Wednesday 10th July. The children have shown great energy, teamwork, and determination — we can’t wait to see them shine on the day!

Our new topic this half term is 'Getting ready for school' you will all be getting some bits and bobs to do at home over the coming weeks.

Come back next week to see what exciting things we get up to next — we’re making every moment count in our final weeks together!

Art – Weaving

In art, we focused on the skill of weaving. Using paper strips, students learned how to create simple woven patterns by going over and under to build colorful and creative designs. This activity helped improve fine motor skills and introduced the idea of patterns and textures in art. Everyone enjoyed seeing their work come together in a unique and satisfying way.

Science – Absorption and Materials

Our science topic this week was absorption, where we investigated how different materials soak up liquids. We tested materials like paper towels, sponges, plastic, foil, and fabric to find out which ones were absorbent and which were non-absorbent. Students recorded their predictions and results, then discussed why certain materials are better for specific uses. It was a great way to explore everyday science through hands-on experiments.

Literacy – "The Magic Bed"

In literacy, we read the story "The Magic Bed", which took us on a journey into the world of imagination. After reading, students used their creativity to innovate the story by coming up with their own magical beds. They wrote about where their beds would take them, what adventures they’d go on, and what magical features their beds might have. This helped develop their narrative writing and encouraged the use of descriptive language and original ideas.

History – Florence Nightingale

In history, we learned about the remarkable life of Florence Nightingale. Students created informative fact files about her, including key facts such as her work during the Crimean War, how she improved hospital conditions, and why she is known as the founder of modern nursing. We looked at images, timelines, and quotes to better understand her impact on healthcare and why she remains such an important historical figure.

P.E. – Football Cricket

In P.E., we had lots of fun playing a game called football cricket! This exciting team sport combines elements of both football and cricket. Instead of using a bat, players kick the ball to score runs, while the fielding team tries to stop the ball and get players “out.” The game helps build a variety of skills including kicking, aiming, teamwork, and quick thinking. It was fast-paced, energetic, and enjoyed by everyone!

Thank you so much for supporting the Well Dressing on Friday 16th May. Our Reception children adorned the well with flowers; our Year 3 children presented their Cornish dances; Year 5 presented their stunning mosaic. Thank you to the Cornwall Heritage Trust who are marking 40 years (the cupcakes were delicious!). We were very proud to be part of this unique event again this year.

Reception/Y1   Week beginning 12th May 2025

This week has been full of exciting learning experiences and memorable moments! In English, we have been focusing on writing the story of The Magic Bed from memory. Everyone has worked really hard to remember the key events, use descriptive language, and sequence the story correctly. It's been wonderful to see such creative ideas and imagination coming through in our writing.

In Maths, we successfully completed our unit on mass and volume. The children have shown great understanding when comparing, measuring, and estimating different weights and capacities. We have now started a brand-new unit on multiplication and division, which is already proving to be a fun and engaging challenge for the class.

In PE, we had the opportunity to try our hand at cricket. The children showed great enthusiasm and picked up the basic skills quickly. We even spotted some fantastic fielders during our practice games—excellent teamwork and quick reflexes all around!

During our PSHE lessons, we have been learning about friendship and how to be a kind and caring friend. We also explored the idea of personal space, discussing how to recognise when someone feels comfortable or uncomfortable with things like cuddles or holding hands. These important conversations are helping the children build empathy and respect for others’ boundaries.

In History, we continued our learning about Florence Nightingale. We began by recalling everything we’ve learnt about her life and work so far. Then, we looked more closely at the huge impact she had on hospitals. The children were fascinated to compare what hospitals were like before and after her contributions and were able to explain why she is such a significant historical figure.

Our Music lesson was an exciting one this week as we had a special session with Mrs. Butlin, who introduced us to the ukulele! The children were thrilled to have a go at playing, learning how to hold the instrument properly and strum a few basic chords. There were lots of smiles and laughter throughout the lesson.

To top off a lovely week, we enjoyed a fabulous picnic on the school field yesterday. The sun was shining, and it was the perfect opportunity to relax, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate all our hard work.
